Frequently Asked QuestionsHow do I get there? The following information should answer this question, but if there are any remaining questions at all, please contact one of our Personal Advisors on 0800 634 7568 Flights Although flights are not included within the sample packages shown in our brochure or this website, they can be added to the ground arrangements for an additional cost which will then offer ATOL protection for the complete package. Alternatively, we can arrange a complete tailor made itinerary for you which will include flights. You should be aware that ground packages and arrangements made without adding flights will not be ATOL protected. If you book your flights independently you are not financially protected. So why book things independently when you can do it all with one free call and have the whole getaway fully ATOL protected. Booking flights yourself means you will not be financially protected and you’ll probably only try 3 or 4 airlines at most. We have access to thousands of flights from all the major airlines and we know how to get the best deals fast. Include your flight and we’ll have the whole getaway sorted and you risk nothing. As a guide: Flights to Europe can be obtained using “ low cost” airlines on the Internet, charter airlines, and scheduled airlines Internet “low cost” airlines offer a wide choice of departure and arrival airports, covering all major European destinations. They can be very inexpensive, but there can be high charges for name changes, charges for carriage of golf clubs and other facilities, and sometimes the “low cost” booking becomes more expensive than scheduled. Charter flights have long been the backbone of reasonably priced seat availability to Europe, but often the length of stay is limited to 7 or 14 days. They also charge for golf club carriage. Scheduled airlines used to be the most expensive way to fly to Europe but often this is no longer the case when you consider the overall package. Many scheduled airlines carry golf clubs for no additional charge and their prices are much more competitive nowadays. For Long Haul flights to the USA and Canada it is scheduled airlines all the way. We have access to literally thousands of prices from all the major Transatlantic carriers, depending on your destination and the route you take. Certain North American destinations have non stop or direct flights from the UK, and with others there will be an intermediate stop and an aircraft change to take you to your onward and final destination. Our knowledgeable staff will advise the most cost and time efficient flight plan, ensuring your journey is smooth and problem free. How do I get around when I’m there? Cars At almost all of our golfing destinations, we strongly recommend self drive car rental as the most efficient and flexible form of local travel. It allows you to go where you want when you want and in many cases works out at the same cost or lower than that of using transfers. We will always use the most suitable vehicle for your party, usually in Europe this would be an Opel Corsa or similar per 2 passengers, and in North America a large SUV such as a Chevrolet Ventura or similar per 4 passengers. We can of course offer a range of vehicles according to requirements of each party, and it is of utmost importance to allow sufficient space for suitcases and golf clubs, whilst bearing in mind the safety and comfort of passengers. All of our car rentals have CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) subject to excess, which can be covered by additional cost payable locally on collection of the vehicle.Full details will be made available at time of booking. I’m only going across the Channel to Northern France or Belgium so can I take my car? Ferries For those who wish to take their own car on a short break to France or Belgium, we can arrange the excellent services of P & O Ferries on their popular routes to Calais, Zeebrugge, Rotterdam and Bilbao. The short sea crossing between Dover and Calais is just 90 minutes and offers an ideal break from behind the wheel to relax on board and take a rest. Our golf destinations in northern France and Belgium are all within easy distance of Calais, the furthest will take just under two hours, and many golfers like to enjoy a round en route either on their way to the hotel or on their return to Calais. Courses in Dunkerque and St Omer are special favourites for this. Drivers from Scotland or the north of England may wish to take the longer ferry crossings from Hull to Zeebrugge or Rotterdam, thus avoiding the drive down to Dover. These services are night sailings and on board cabins are available. From Zeebrugge most of the golf destinations are still within an easy two hour drive. From Rotterdam it is best to allow for a four hour journey to your destination.
I’m thinking of going down to the Basque Coast so can I take my car there too? For those wishing to visit the French Basque Country with their own vehicles, the ferry service between Portsmouth and Bilbao offers an ideal solution. The outbound sailing takes two nights with on board cabins and plenty of time to relax and enjoy the sailing. The return sailing leaves at lunchtime and only one night is spent on board. Biarritz is around a 2 hour drive from Bilbao.
